VISITING THE ANCESTORS

A trance journey to an inclusive ancestral site in the underworld

Before you set off on your journey, take a moment to call upon the ancestors, letting them know you intend to visit. It’s a respectful gesture to inform them in advance, especially if you have a particular reason, such as a question, a need for support, or healing. Of course, you are also free to simply explore, engage in conversation, or simply be in their presence. Below is a brief description of this ancestral site. It may seem small at first, but there is far more to it than meets the eye, and it holds much to offer. As you journey, allow yourself to wander, ask questions, and trust in the guidance of your imagination and intuition.

In your mind, glide down on one of the roots of Yggdrasil, or any other way familiar, to the underworld. Take a moment to look around once you arrive. Far in the distance, you can see the river Gljöll and even further away, the gate to Helheim. When you look to your right, you see a forest with a small settlement at the edge. There is a path leading you there. As you come closer, you notice the buildings are arranged in a circle. The path continues between two of the buildings, leading you to the village green. A fire crackles merrily, and around it, you see ancestors sitting. Some are reading a book, others are chatting with each other or gazing into the fire. You are welcome to join them.

Take a walk around the settlement, and you will come across the weaving mill and the smithy of the seidr sibbe. A rainbow flag hangs on one of the other buildings, marking the hall of lgbtqia+ ancestral spirits. Lgbtqia+ individuals are welcome to enter, while others may do so only by invitation.
